Dr Peter Monckton
Dr Peter Monckton was born in Mount Morgan, raised in Baralaba and completed his schooling in Rockhampton. He graduated from the University of Queensland in 1985 and spent three years as a flying dentist in the outback. In 1989 to 1992, Dr Monckton practiced general Dentistry privately in Goondiwindi.
Trained in top orthodontic programme
In 1992, Dr Monckton was accepted at the University of Pennsylvania where he undertook postgraduate training in Orthodontics. Penn is the second oldest dental school in the US, opening its doors in 1852.
After returning to Australia in 1995, Dr Monckton set up practice in Mackay. Over the past 26 years, the practice has grown from one chair and one staff member to the successful practice that it is today. Dr Monckton is proactive in providing is team members with the ongoing training required to deliver a high level of quality orthodontic treatment and service to our patients. Some of his staff have been with him for the entire time he’s been in practice.
Current specialisation and advanced technology
Dr Monckton is a leader in technological advances in his practice. This includes the use of laser technology and a 3D cone beam imaging machine. Dr Monckton uses this technology to provide patients with individualised and detailed treatment plans involving Braces, Invisalign or early intervention Orthodontic Treatment. He also stays on the cutting edge of orthodontics by participating in a variety of continuing education.

Dr Monckton is a registered dental specialist with AHPRA and is a member of the following industry Associations:

- Australian Society of Orthodontists, and
- American Association of Orthodontists
Excellent patient interaction
Dr Monckton has an excellent manner with his patients and keeps his patients and parents informed throughout all stages of orthodontic treatment. Outside of the clinic, Dr Monckton enjoys exercising, fishing and sailing with his family and friends. His community involvement includes Mackay Athletics and Mackay Hockey. He also sponsors Renegades Basketball, Norths Cricket, Mackay Pioneer BMX, and Lions Football.

Dr Joe Formosa
Dr Joe Formosa is a Mackay local and having attended Whitsunday Anglican School for his secondary education. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree and university medal at James Cook University College of Medicine and Dentistry in 2014. He commenced work as a Dentist in the Mackay and Proserpine Base Hospitals, School Dental Service and also in private Dental practice.
In 2018, Dr Formosa was accepted at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine (USA) where he undertook postgraduate specialty training in both Orthodontics and Periodontics. His training involved managing a broad range of paediatric, adolescent and complex adult patients and rotations at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in craniofacial and cleft palate.
Dr Formosa’s dual residency program is the only one of its kind across the U.S and has given him the opportunity to diagnose and address a wide array of orthodontic and periodontal problems and create and follow all the steps leading to a successful, personalised treatment plan.
Away from practice Joe loves cooking, movies, spending time with family at Seaforth, fishing and boating around the Whitsundays.
Joe is excited to be joining his friend and mentor, Dr Peter Monckton and the team at Torque Orthodontics in Mackay.
